Digital retouching work is backed up
by high resolution Image Setters

Once the Digital Proofs have been approved, the assembled job is ready to be committed to film. The High Resolution files held on the File Server are automatically substituted for the Low Resolution positional images from the work stations, and is then routed to the appropriate image setter.

These devices are regularly calibrated and produce high quality screen rulings from 15 up to 200 lines per inch, in either round, elliptical or the new stochastic dot form.

Stochastic screening is a new 'random' dot form generated by the RIP to eliminate some of the problems associated with conventional round or elliptical dots.

The diagram to the left indicates a magnified section of 50% tint produced in elliptical (above), and stochastic (below).

As the dot form is totally random, no 'screen clash' is ever generated, even if a fifth or sixth colour is overprinted.

The effect is created at the RIP, meaning that it works independently of any applications used to create the graphics or scans. Logos, tints and washes appear in stochastic as well as the scans creating an almost 'continuous tone' effect to the eye.

The recent installation of the new Dolev 800V has opened up whole new areas of output possibility. With its large format 44" x 33" film it can reproduce a full range of screen rulings to this size, including the new Geometric Screening, ideal for combatting moire or screen/mesh angle clash.
